Freshping shut down. Here's what to use instead.

Updated March 2026

On March 6, 2026, Freshworks permanently discontinued Freshping. Over 20,000 businesses that relied on it for free uptime monitoring were left without a tool and without a migration path.

If you're one of them, you're probably comparing options right now. Here's how OpenPing stacks up against what Freshping offered — and against the other alternatives you're considering.

What Freshping offered

Freshping was generous:

  • 50 free monitors
  • 1-minute check intervals
  • 5 status pages
  • 10 global check locations
  • Email alerts

No cloud-hosted alternative matches all of that for free. That's the reality. But here's what you can get.

We won't pretend we match Freshping's 50 monitors and 1-minute checks on the free tier. We offer 25 monitors at 3-minute intervals. If you need more, the Starter plan ($7/mo) gives you 50 monitors with 1-minute checks — roughly what Freshping offered for free.

Why did Freshping shut down?

Freshping never made money. It was a lead-generation tool for Freshworks' paid products. When their new CEO simplified the product portfolio, Freshping was cut because it didn't contribute revenue.

That's an important lesson: a monitoring tool that doesn't have its own revenue model is always at risk of being shut down. OpenPing charges for premium tiers, which means the business model sustains the free tier instead of depending on a parent company's marketing budget.

What about the other alternatives?

UptimeRobot

50 free monitors, but restricted to non-commercial use only since December 2024. If you're monitoring a business website, their free tier technically doesn't apply to you anymore.

Better Stack (Better Uptime)

10 free monitors at 3-minute intervals. Good product, but the paid plans start at $29/month with per-seat pricing and add-ons. Gets expensive fast.

HetrixTools

15 free monitors at 1-minute intervals. Closest to Freshping's offering. Good option if you need fewer monitors with faster checks.

Uptime Kuma (self-hosted)

Free and unlimited, but you need your own server, Docker knowledge, and you're monitoring from a single location. If your VPS goes down, your monitoring goes with it.

Migrate to OpenPing in 2 minutes

  1. Create a free account — no credit card needed
  2. Use bulk import to paste all your URLs at once (one per line)
  3. Email alerts are set up automatically — you're done
  4. Optionally, create a status page for your users

Your monitors start checking immediately. No waiting for the first cron cycle.
